The federal Republic of Nigeria have signed a tax cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with France.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) signed the agreement with France’s Direction Générale des Finances Publiques (DGFiP) aiming to deepen collaboration on tax administration and modernise Nigeria’s revenue systems.
The is part of a broader tax reform review ahead of Nigeria’s transition from FIRS to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in January 2026, focusing on improving digital tax administration and digital transformation of tax systems.
It will lead to capacity building, strengthening compliance, taxpayer services, and data-driven enforcement. The sharing of information and best practices to enhance efficiency.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service noted that the MoU does not permit France access to Nigerian taxpayer data or operational systems and is confined to technical support and advisory roles. It emphasises that Nigerian laws on data protection and cybersecurity remain in force.
The agreement is intended to help Nigeria adopt international best practices and build institutional strength ahead of its tax service reform.
