A Nigerian social media influencer, Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, known online as “KC Luxury,” has been arrested over alleged links to an international cocaine trafficking network.
Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it seized 184.5kg of cocaine, valued at nearly $28 million (£21m), at a courier facility in Lagos on 3 August.
The shipment was allegedly destined for the UK, as well as other European and Asian destinations.
Micheal, 49, who reportedly has around 700,000 Instagram followers, was arrested on 13 August at Lagos airport while attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris.
The NDLEA alleges he was the Nigerian “arrowhead” of a network moving cocaine from South America through Nigeria to Europe and Asia.
A second suspect, 33-year-old Lawal Mujab Kehinde, was also arrested and is accused of helping package the cocaine through a logistics company.
Authorities say Micheal was carrying more than $12,840 in various currencies, along with expensive jewellery, when detained.
Neither suspect has been charged in court or publicly responded to the allegations, according to reports.
The NDLEA says its investigation is continuing and that suspected members of the wider network have also been arrested in the UK.
